This week we’re joined again by LCP’s head of Real assets research, Andy Jacobson. During a difficult year for investors, Real assets are in the spotlight for all sorts of reasons: potential portfolio diversifiers, protection from higher inflation, and also risks from decarbonisation and changes to energy strategy.

At the same time, we’re seeing a rotation into newer styles of real asset investing including global property, digital infrastructure and renewables. We cover a huge range of terrain in the conversation which is a must-listen for any investors interested in Real assets.

We discuss:

  • How should we think about real assets in the context of high inflation?

  • How should we think about real assets in the context of climate change and the government’s new energy strategy?

  • Any broader ESG issues to focus on?

  • Latest on property views including global vs the UK

  • Latest on infrastructure – including renewables as an asset class and sector-focused compared to broader mandates

  • How are investors allocating to real assets

  • Next research projects: what Andy is looking at/focusing on in the next 12 months

What's one thing to take away?

There’s an underappreciation of what long term really means especially in the context of big structural mega themes. Going in with your eyes open and resisting the temptation to overreact on short term noise, these are multi-year investments and it’s essential to approach with that mindset.

Any recommendations?
