Reacting to today's announcement by the government of a commitment to cut Greenhouse gas emissions in the UK to almost zero by 2050, Kyle Martin head of Market Insight at LCP said: 

"Adopting a new legally binding net zero target is necessary to ensure the UK is at the forefront of tackling Climate Change. There are significant challenges in reaching this target and while we have made significant progress in decarbonising our generation mix we still need to decarbonise heat, transport and even our own diets. The UK also has an opportunity to be a leader in developing the technology and techniques to tackle these issues which will be essential for any low carbon economy in the future."
