SHPS:
Should you exit?

Events

9:30AM

A panel discussion, co-hosted with Campbell Tickell, exploring why housing associations are transferring out of SHPS, and whether you should consider doing the same.

An increasing number of housing associations have transferred out of the Social Housing Pension Scheme (SHPS) into their own pension arrangements.

These transfers have taken place for a variety of reasons, with the main themes being control and consolidation. Whilst the idea of transferring out of SHPS has attractions for many associations, it absolutely won’t be the right decision for everyone. A transfer is a lengthy and involved exercise that shouldn’t be underestimated, and it is important that associations have all the facts before they consider their options.

To help you make an informed decision, we will be bringing together a panel of housing association representatives and industry experts with direct experience of SHPS exits:

  • Anne Costain, Director of Finance and IT at Radian – the first association to transfer out of SHPS
  • James Francis, Group Finance Director at Southern Housing – the only association to transfer out of SHPS to a scheme outside of The Pensions Trust
  • Richard Soldan, Partner and head of Social Housing at LCP – Richard has advised several organisations who have transferred out of multi-employer schemes within The Pensions Trust
  • Mike Richardson, Partner at LCP – Mike has extensive experience of advising housing associations on pensions issues, including advising both Radian and Southern on their exit from SHPS
  • Sue Harvey, Partner at Campbell Tickell – Sue leads on Finance, Risk and Regulation for Campbell Tickell, and has advised many housing associations.

Join us for a morning seminar where we will help you understand the pros and cons of a transfer, and so whether it is something you should be taking forward, highlighting any bear traps you need to look out for, in what is a complex process.
