Trustees and sponsors
Setting a pension scheme’s investment strategy is one of the most important decisions for trustees and sponsors. The range of investment options available today means that trustees and sponsors need more detailed knowledge and clear advice in order to make those decisions.
LCP's investment team works with trustees and sponsors to ensure that they feel comfortable making investment decisions and that they understand the consequences using our innovative tools, award winning communication and manager research to deliver clear recommendations.
Help for Trustees - setting the strategy
We help pension scheme trustees:
- Define their investment objectives
- Understand how the sponsor's covenant can impact their investment choices
- Design and implement an investment strategy consistent with their objectives
- Prepare their Statement of Investment Principles
- Implement efficient governance structures
- Develop a good working relationship with the sponsor
- Consider the extent to which they wish to take account of environmental, social and governance considerations when selecting investments
Help for sponsoring companies - understanding the impact
Funding level volatility is strongly affected by the scheme's investment strategy. Volatility is reflected directly in the sponsor's accounts and governs how much cash is ultimately required to fund the pension scheme. Pension scheme obligations therefore represent a substantial financial risk to sponsoring employers. If these risks are not properly controlled, they can negatively affect the sponsor's overall business performance.
Our investment team works with companies to ensure that they understand the investment arrangements of their pension scheme. We can then help communicate the effect of the scheme investment policy on the sponsor to the trustees. By feeding in the sponsor's views at an early stage of the process, it enables the trustees to make informed investment decisions that reflect the views of both parties.
We understand that corporate sponsors have businesses to run. By using our real-time modelling tools in these situations, we can provide quick, efficient and effective advice.
