Ian Smyth, Partner in LCP's Energy, Utilities and Regulated Industries practice will be joining Charles Hendry, Minister for Energy and Tony Ward, Ernst and Young's Partner for Energy and Utilities to deliver the plenary session of the New Energy Economy's "Future Energy Pathways" conference. They will be joined by over 30 other speakers from the diverse range of business and organisations working in the UK energy sector, each bringing their own unique insight into the widening spectrum of challenges the UK's power sector continues to face.
Ambitious political plans have been tempered by the European sovereign debt crisis, market conditions and the government's responses to these. As time marches on, the existing approach to Smart is being challenged by innovative and cheaper emerging technologies.
Despite progress in some areas, the Energy Market Reform (EMR) requires further policy decisions and governmental action.
Whilst market uncertainty threatens to challenge existing projects, it also creates an opening for new entrants, to take an early lead and realize the groundbreaking partnerships which have the potential to deliver innovative solutions rapidly and efficiently.
As the gap between macro and micro planning widens, keeping projects alive will require deeper insight, greater flexibility and highly effective leadership.
