Timescales
Please note we have now filled all of our summer intern positions for 2011.
January: LCP start reviewing applications
Friday 30 March: closing date for application for 2012 summer internships
April: Interviews
July: Summer internship commences
We are happy to receive applications throughout the year but will only review them in January through to our closing date for that year. Competition for places on our programme is high so we encourage early applications to avoid disappointment.
Selection process
Candidates who are short-listed from the application forms will be invited to come to our offices to meet us. This usually takes place late March to early April and will typically involve:
- Two interviews - typically with a consultant and a partner
- An abstract reasoning test - to test your problem solving skills
- An office tour - so you can look around where you will be working
- Lunch with recent graduates - giving you the chance to ask them questions about working for LCP
In addition to the academic requirements, we select individuals with the following attributes:
- Keen to develop personally and professionally
- Strong team player
- Excellent communication skills
- Highly numerate
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for top-quality students, who are highly numerate with a strong academic record and a keen interest in the actuarial profession. Our entry requirements reflect this and competition is strong.
- Usually in the penultimate year of your degree
- Predicted at least 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent). We welcome graduates from a wide range of disciplines who are prepared for the high level of mathematical content the actuarial training and profession delivers
- A-grade in A-Level mathematics (or equivalent)
- Good A-Level grades in other subjects
- A-Levels equating to a total of 320 UCAS points is desirable
Benefits package
A competitive salary, exposure to the work that we do, hands-on experience and pro-rated annual holiday entitlement. Plus, if we're impressed by how you perform on your internship, there is a real chance you can secure a position on our graduate programme, to commence once you have finished your degree or further summer intern work if you still have some time left at university.
And if you've enjoyed your time at LCP, we hope you'll be keen to join us!
What our interns say
“After my intern experience I knew for certain that I wanted to go into the actuarial profession and that LCP was perfect. I was offered the graduate position which I didn't hesitate to accept.”
